diagrams vs.pieces I find that as I play more on the internet and computer and read chess books, that I have become more comfortable looking at diagrams of positions rather than actual three dimensional chessboards and pieces. I'm curious to hear if anyone else has experienced this transformation.

I think I might be, but I think it would disappear after a while and you would get to like the board better.I once saw a picture of Kasparov playing over the internet, and it showed him using one of those boards that are attached to the computer. So he likes using the actual board better I guess.

If I can't.... .....move pieces around a board, I don't feel that I'm playing a game, just solving some kind of puzzle.

Philaretus Isn't each move just thatů a puzzle to solve?

honololou SOME moves are puzzles, though I wouldn't agree that all are. But in any case, I was talking about the entire game. It's sad if we forget the origins of chess as a war game.
